Tarabai Paranjape



Dr.Tarabai Nagnathrao Paranjape born on 5th October,1930. She is a daughter of Digambarrao Apte. Tarabai has completed M.A.,B.Ed.,and Ph.D.
Service in Education
She was a Teacher from 3rd August,1949 to 8th June,1964 in the Peoples High School, Nanded. During July,1964 to July, 1982 she was a lecturer in Peoples College, Nanded. During August,1982 to 1989 she worked as a Principal of Peoples College, Nanded.
Involvement in Freedom Struggle
Tarabai Paranjape was the resident of Hyderabad before her marriage. She met Poojya Swami Ramanand Teerth, then Top most leader of Hyderabad State Congress, and asked him to give her some job to earn money. He gave her work in Khadi Bhandar and adviced her to do a social work as well as political too. Thereafter, she had started adult education clas in Bhangi colony. She become the chief organiser of Rashtra Seva Dal Womens wing in 1944.
From January 1947 to September,1948 - worked in Hyderabad Freedom Struggle at Hyderabad City and worked as full time worker of Hyderabad State Congres.
From August 7th to 15th,1947 - Organised Zenda Satyagrah.
From January to July - Joined Fund Raising Programme.
From August,1947 to Oct,1947 - Conducted group meetings, rallies and processions agaonst the Nizam's state.
Incident of Cyclostyle Machine removal from the house of Shri Vaishampayan.
In september,1947 shri Vaishyampayan secretary of City congress gone underground and Cyclostyle machine was kept in his house which was under vigilance of Police. Tarabai dressed as Telgu maid servant along with Padmakarrao Lathkar visited the Vaishyampayans house. Tarabai Paranjape argued in Telgu about half an hour with police for entrance in the house. She told police that her utensils and cloths are in the house of Vaishyampayan and being a poor lady she cannot afford to buy new utensils. Finally she succeed  to enter the house. She took the cyclostyle machine with some utensils in a rough cloth, clotted the cloth and took it on head and came out. Thus she succeed in carrying away the machine which was very useful in publishing matterial in relation to freedom movement. This was a courageous daring shown by her in those days.
Supply of Arms and Amunitions
From January,1948 the freedom struggle became violent. Freedom struggle gone violent movement from non-violent movement. Tarabai was directed to supply the arms and amunitions to various camps of freedom fighters. In February, 1948 there was a plan to sabotage the railway line and there fore she was carrying cutters of railway fish plates in her bag. She was carrying cutters from Solapur. She alighted at Nampally Station. During transfer of arms she was asked to open a suit case at Karodgiri Naka [ Toll Tax ] by TollInspector an old lady. Tarabai pretended to be a college girl and took the lipstick from her bag and explained the old lady with action. Tarabais superfluos actions and talks were so funny that she allowed her to go away without checking.

01. Nomination by Chancellor of Governer of a Maharashtra State on the Senate of Marathwada University, Aurangabad from 1977 to 1980.
02. Nomination on the S.S.C.Board, Pune by the Maharashtra Government from 1977 to 1984.
03. Elected as a member of Governing Council of Nanded Education Society in 1993.
04. Nomination by Chancellor on Academic Council of Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded.

01. In 1985 JANKIBAI APTE Award of Ahemad Nagar for the work done in the field of women and children.
